At Hele's Angels, the issue of cleaner streets is one of our four major problem-solving issues that we tackle. Over the last 18 months, Hele's Angels has taken part in several projects to help clean up the streets of the local area, making it a better place to live.

The first of these projects was the 'Big Tidy Up' which was carried out in February 2010 on Lichfield Avenue and the surrounding streets of Hele, Torquay.

Since then, another big clean up took place in January 2011 around the Pendennis, Corfe and Audley Avenue areas of Hele, Torquay.

June 2013 we had another 'Big Tidy Up' this time concentrating on the Lichfield/Salisbury areas of Hele, Torquay.

Once again the intiative was a resounding success with almost 50 tonnes of rubbish moved from the area by a number of vehicles and skips. The community involvement was the greatest we've had thus far which is something to celebrate! This was without a doubt a day where everyone came together for the good of the area and the Acorn centre provided much needed food and refreshments on the day!

Thanks to TOR2, the street wardens and Upton Vale Baptist Church, along with our army of volunteers and participating residents!

It remains clear that provision is much needed within the community to provide an affordable way to dispose of unwanted household items and waste. We must, however find a sustainable alternative solution to the problem which is more cost-effective and proactive. If anyone has any ideas about how to take this forward then please contact Chris Forster at the shop.
